2016 could be looked at in a couple of different ways for me running wise. It can be looked at as coming up short. I did not run a single PR this year. That’s right, not a one. I didn’t even reach my B goal in my marathons by running a sub 3 hour marathon.
It can also be looked at as a positive year. While I did not PR, or break 3 hours, I did complete 5 marathons. 3 of those 5 marathons were Boston Qualifing times. I also ran 5 half marathons (placing in my division in my division in 4 of them). I had some luck in smaller local races with a win or 2 and quiet a few places in my age division. At the end of the year, I will be well over 2000 miles.
While I am kind of up in the air about if it was a good year or not in running, I guess I am leaning towards calling it a decent year. Nothing great, but not bad. But besides my performances, I would say it was a great year because I got to meet several other runners that I have gotten to know through social media.
So what’s in store for 2017? My race schedule is not totally set, and probably won’t be for a while. As of now, 4 marathons are on the schedule, and I don’t foresee another being added at this point. I will be starting off with the Hall of Fame Marathon in Canton, OH on April 30th. This will be followed up by the Vermont City Marathon on Memorial Day weekend. My fall marathons will be the Chicago Marathon and the Monumental Marathon. Right now my only half marathons on the schedule are the F3 Half Marathon in Chicago in January and more than likely the Sunburst Half in South Bend in early June. I am sure I will be adding more. The only otherrace I have scheduled is the Mardi Gras Chaser in Chicago in February.
While the schedule isn’t that planned out yet, I am sure a lot of weekends will be filled up with races. The goals for 2017 mostly stay the same. I want to run a PR in the Marathon (2:55:35). On top of that I want to run a division course record at the Hall of Fame Marathon and place in the top 5 overall. Will I get there, we will see. However the year goes, I just look to improve on my own fitness and times and meet a lot of new runners along the way. Thank you 2016, hello 2017!
