Stinky, funky, nasty gear is just part of the territory when it comes to running. It can be a struggle to figure out what to do with your running shoes and clothing after your run so the powerful stench doesn’t knock you or a family member out. In the past, my running shoes were typically kept in the laundry room or garage. My clothes, hanging in the bathroom to dry out (which doesn’t help with the stench at all) so that my wife is disgusted with my sweaty wet clothes when she goes to do laundry. *For the record, my wife does not allow me to do laundry. This is her rule, not mine. I just follow it*
Given the opportunity to try out the 2Toms Laundry Detergant, I figured this would be a product worth testing out. What I didn’t expect (and I don’t think any other BibRave Pro did either) was a bottle of 2Toms Stink Free Shoe and Gear Spray. This is awesome because as bad as my running clothes smell, my shoes can be just as bad, if not worse.
According to the 2Toms Stink Free Sports Detergent website:
“Remove odor, don’t just mask it! Stink Free Sports Detergent removes odors and stains in high performance athletic apparel and gear using a proprietary residue lifter and odor neutralizer. Stink Free Sports Detergent restores clothing performance and breathability while eliminating not masking odor.”
What I take away with this is:
- There is no sweat odor left behind, but also none of the flowery scent that can be left behind by your normal every day detergant. I hate that scent left behind so the 2Toms Detergant is very much appreciated for that reason alone.
- Restores clothing performance and breathability. What some people don’t know, and I had heard this in the past, regular Detergants can hinder the breathability of your expensive tech (polyester fabric) clothing, defeating the purpose of that expensive purchase.
So why not take better care of your investment and treat your running gear right? But it’s not just for running gear. Use it for washing your hockey pads, soccer shin guards, shoes, cleats, sleeping bags, backpacks, hydration packs, and so much more. Start taking better part of your running gear.
The second product I tried was the Stink Free Gear and Shoe Spray. Oh my word, this is what I am very excited about. I first tried it on my shoes, and the difference it made was unbelievable. You start off by spraying the product 2-3 times a day until the odor is eliminated. It took about 3-4 days until the odor in my shoes were gone (I probably have 400-500 sweaty, rainy miles on these shoes). Now I am just spraying them one time every other day, and the odor is still gone. Just one pump in each shoe is enough to eliminate the odor.
The spray can be used on more than just your shoes. I did spray it on my Orange Mud Endurance pack and Orange Mud Hydraquiver as well and it eliminated the odor on those as well. This product is great also for when you are at a race a little ways away from home and don’t want to smell your gear during the drive home. Just a quick spray eliminates the odor.
